Board Rules.

The Rules

Please read the following carefully before posting ...

When registering at this message board, you agree to abide by the Terms of Use issued by XMB, and the board rules listed below:

Screen names and characters

When you register a Screen Name, please make sure to fill out the registry form correctly. Erroneous or otherwise invalid accounts will be deleted, as will unused accounts after 30 days without activity.

Please remember that the role-plays on this forum are based on the characters and stories of JK Rowling's Harry Potter series. You can play either a character from the books (a "canon"), or make your own original character. An original character should fit into the Potterverse, fx. a character from a different fandom (Lord of the Rings, Spiderman etc., etc.) will not be tolerated.

Language and Action

HPInc is rated PG13 to light R, and as such, language and speech should be kept according to this rating. Certain words will be auto-screened by our forum censors, but as of yet, these censors are not particularly strict. Bear this in mind when posting; continuous abuse and disregard of these rules will result in more extensive censors.

Members under the age of 13 should not post personal information. This is a precaution made for your own safety. Any such information will be deleted, and the member will receive a warning.

Excessively violent behaviour is permitted only in the contexts of role-playing, and even here members are advised to step cautiously.

Etiquette

Always treat other members with respect. Any assault on a member, both directly or indirectly, will not be tolerated and is grounds for suspension of the member behind the assault.

Also remember to be courteous when role-playing. Don't just barge in and disrupt an on-going role-play unless you have a good motive, and have at least asked one of the people already integrated in the role-play, either via the forum's U2U feature, or instant messaging, and have got permission to join.

Of course, all members are permitted to deny entrance of other characters in their role-plays, but generally all role-plays should be considered open and free to join unless stated otherwise by the creator of the role-play.

Avatars

- Should not exceed 160 x 160 pixels; all images larger than this will be either replaced or deleted.
- Should not contain [Censored]ographic or otherwise offensive content.
- Should not feature a person already used by another member, unless you have permission from that member.

For more information about avatars, go here.

Signatures

- Should not take up more space than 10 lines of text written in the regular font of this board (verdana, 10px).
- Should not be graphic heavy, this means no obscenely large images in your signature. You have an avatar to display any picture you might want to.
- Should not make threads scroll horizontally on an 800 x 600 resolution screen.
- Should not contain vulgar content or link to inappropriate websites.

Board Discipline

Only create topics clearly indicative of the contents within. When replying to these threads, keep to the subject as much as possible. In role-plays, this is considered to be IC ("in character"). Making irrelevant comments, lurking, or chatting in a role-play is called OOC ("out of character", or "out of context"). Please keep OOC chatter to a minimum. There is a chat thread created for this purpose.

When posting an OOC comment on the role-play boards, please switch your signature off, as multiple, large signatures may disrupt the flow of the role-play.

When creating a new topic, make certain that there has not already been posted a topic with similar contents before yours. For example, we do not need an individual topic for "girl sits by the lake unpacking her lunch while wondering about her Potions essay", when you can simply make a topic called "By the lake". This will enable more members to join, and the topic can be re-used after you're done with your role-play: It is more efficient and less space-consuming.

- Threads located in an inappropriate forum will be moved.

- Multiple topics featuring similar contents will be either deleted or merged.

- If it didn't happen in a rp on this site, it didn't happen at all.

Spamming

Spamming will under no circumstances be tolerated and will be deleted immediately. This includes:

- Posting multiple smileys, serving no purpose.
- Only posting to promote your own, or any other site.
- SPOILERS.

If you do make a thread or post that contains spoilers for either a book or movie, you must clearly indicate and give fair warning to other members in either the subject bar of the post/thread or in the body of the post/thread. This is considered common courtesy.

Don't

- Impersonate "real", private people. This is a violation of privacy, and could risk legal action.
- Post imitable behaviour, such as bomb recipes, or "happy-slapping" videos etc., etc.
- In any way try to desecrate, vandalize or violate another member or the forum as a whole.

Screen names guilty of any of these actions will be deleted immediately and furthermore have their IP banned permanently from the site.

Also, members who repeatedly upset the smooth running of the forum, make hostile or anti-social comments may also face suspension. Admins can, at any time, without prior warning, delete comments or posts if the content is deemed inappropriate. You have been warned.

We support open debate on HPInc, but at the same time we urge members to remember that an admin’s word is final. We admins always discuss the various issues that may occur with each other before making any sort of official statement on the board - but once we do, we expect people will respect the decision which has been made.

Regards,
The HPInc Team
